Did you know that many of Nom Nom's packaging materials are recyclable? Read on for all the ways you can get the most from your box, liner and everything else you find inside your shipments.

Recycling the Box

Your cardboard box can simply be recycled each week. Collapse it for easier storing or use it to collect cans, paper or other recyclables you can put by the curb on your pick-up day.

We’ve seen lots of creative ways our customers have reused their boxes, up to and including:

  • Playpen for kittens and puppies
  • Training tool for cats and dogs
  • Toy bins
  • Moving / storage containers

But we’re always ready to be wowed. Tag us @nomnom on Instagram with your most inventive uses for a chance for you and your furry family members to be featured.

Recycling the Liner

Inside each Nom Nom box, you’ll find a liner. This is what keeps your dog's fresh food cool and safe in transit, ideally making life that much more convenient for you.

Our liners are made from renewable plant-based components and paper. These can be recycled the same way that cardboard can be recycled — if your local recycling center collects cardboard in the same swoop as the rest of your recyclables, feel free to discard it just the same as our one-day liners.

Sublimating Your Dry Ice

Inside each Nom Nom box, you may find a cloud of dry ice maintaining your Nom Nom at a safe temperature while it’s in transit.

Dry ice is actually quite eco-friendly on its own – it's made from recycled CO2 that already exists and would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. Once your box is open, remove your meals and place your box in a well-ventilated area to let any remaining dry ice sublimate (that’s science-speak for “break down”).

As a word of caution, we advise you to take care while unpacking and never touch dry ice with your bare hands. Do not place dry ice on furniture or other surfaces and never dispose of dry ice in a sink, drain or trash can.

Gel Ice Packs

There also may be gel ice packs in the box. You can reuse these; just rinse, clean and store the pack in the freezer, and use them in lunch boxes, ice chests or to keep perishables cold on the go! To dispose of them instead, you can cut the corner of the pouch and pour the gel into the trash. Since Glacier Ice™ gel is 99.5% water, it will significantly dehydrate if it ends up in the landfill. Please note: while Glacier Ice™ gel is non-toxic, it is not drain-safe and may cause a clog if poured down the drain. After disposing of the gel, just recycle the empty plastic gel pack bag like any other plastic bag.

Meal Packs

Unfortunately, at this time, our meal packs are not recyclable. We're constantly on the look out for new options that can improve this experience, so standby in the future!
